Hannah, Lead Veterinary Assistant
I have known from the time I was a very small child that I wanted to spend my life taking care of animals. I have a strong passion for both wildlife and domestic animal care. I have worked consistently in small mammal veterinary medicine since 2016, before that I primarily worked at zoos caring for a wide variety of species, from dwarf mongoose to elephants.
Since I became focused on a career in small animal veterinary medicine, I have found new ways of getting involved in wildlife care and conservation including taking opportunities to volunteer with wildlife conservation organizations overseas. I got the opportunity in 2018 to spend 6 weeks volunteering with the Sabah Wildlife Rescue Unit in Malaysia, Borneo. I also spent the first 6 months of 2022 working with the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Somaliland, Africa, rescuing and rehabilitating cheetah cubs confiscated from the illegal pet trade.
What I love most about veterinary medicine is the constant opportunity for growth. There is always more to learn. Whether you are in the field for 6 months or 20 years, you can always learn something new. I love interacting with animals and their people, and teaching pet parents new ways to care for their pets at home is one of the most rewarding parts of my career.
I have an equal love for wildlife and domestic pets and feel quite lucky to have found a balance where I can contribute to both wildlife conservation and the lives of our domestic pet family members.
