Kittens
What to expect with your new kitten:
Wellness Care for the first 6 months:
FeLV/FIV test (usually not before 8 weeks of age)
Deworming
Fecal exam
Vaccines:
- FVRCP vaccines: approximately 8, 12, 16 weeks of age
-FeLV vaccines: approximately 12 and 16 weeks of age
- Rabies vaccine: typically between 16-24 weeks of age
Spay/neuter at 5-6 months of age
Microchip (often done at time of spay/neuter)
Food: Wet food is preferred, as cats are notoriously bad water drinkers. If you feed all wet food, you can add in dental treats to help with oral hygiene (Greenies, CET chews, Plaque Off).
When transitioning to a new food be sure to do it slowly over the course of a week or so. Start with 1/4 new food to 3/4 old food, then go 1/2 and 1/2, and end with 3/4 new food to 1/4 old food, prior to the full transition.
